Fragrance alternatives, examined

Find a fragrance that comes close — and see the evidence behind it

Dupologist matches expensive fragrances to affordable ones you can actually buy today, then shows its work: which notes overlap, how confident the match is, what wearers report about longevity, and where the alternative differs. When the evidence is thin, we say so instead of calling it a clone.

Popular alternative guides

Full comparisons for the originals people substitute most often — each with labelled recommendations, shared notes and trade-offs.

What the recommendation labels mean

Closest match
Strongest confirmed note overlap with the original in the current in-stock set.
Best value
Lowest cost per millilitre among the options that still fit the scent profile.
Same vibe
Reads similarly in the room without trying to reproduce the original's structure.
Better longevity
Community reports put wear time above the rest of the set at this price.
Softer alternative
Quieter projection — the same idea at conversation distance.

How recommendations work

  1. 1. Start from the original's note structure

We hold a curated profile for each original — top, heart and base notes, family and how it's usually worn — written by hand rather than scraped.

  2. 2. Search live retailer listings

Results come from retailer product data, filtered to in-stock wearable fragrance under your budget. Essential oils, candles and body care are excluded, as are the original house's own bottles.

  3. 3. Compare notes and score overlap

We match the retailer's stated notes and description against the original's profile. Overlap sets the label and the confidence level; no overlap means no claim.

  4. 4. Report wear honestly

Longevity and projection ranges paraphrase community consensus for the house, clearly attributed. We don't generate ratings, reviews or stock claims, and we route you to a sample when confidence is Medium or Low.

How we make money

We may earn commissions from some retailer links. The price you pay is the retailer's normal price, and commission never sets the ranking: results are ordered by scent fit, evidence, price, and availability. If we ever run a paid placement, it will be labeled Sponsored and kept out of the ranked recommendations entirely.
